Happy Sunday!

We’re keeping it brief this week, taking a quick look at collecting related to current events.

Seeing Green

Manufacturers and marketers are seeing green with the ongoing craze for blind boxes — the little surprise packs full of anything from toys to trinkets and beyond. And that’s because younger collectors are spending their green to acquire and maintain their modern day collections. Check out a short history and learn more about the big business trend in this article from June of this year.

Knocking it outta the park

With yet another World Series showdown fast approaching, we thought we’d see what was brewing in the baseball collecting arena stadium. Last year, MoneyMade put together a list of the top selling baseball cards and brands. What was once a mere ploy to get people to buy cigarettes has turned into a billion dollar industry all its own. See which cards are knocking it out of the park in this 2023 article.

A librarian who rocks

In our opinion, all librarians rock. But there’s one in Cleveland who especially does.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is inducting its next set of artists and music contributors, back in its home town of Cleveland, Ohio. Putting on such a ceremony is just one small feat among many, at a museum that preserves the history and evolution of a truly global cultural pillar.

So who’s the keeper and protector of these legendary musical collections? The Rock and Roll librarian of course. In 2017, Atlas Obscura interviewed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame librarian, Laura Maidens — “about playlist inspiration, Ramones-themed prayer cards, finding secret notes from Keith Richards, and other highlights of the gig.”
